Summer

So, I've been absent for a while. School was pretty hectic in the last couple months. But since I last posted, I've gotten a new camera! My D7000 is fabulous and I take it with me everywhere. As the first post in a while, I thought I'd just post a few pictures as a photo diary.

Since the beginning of June, I:

Graduated. I happened to be the very last person in my class to receive my diploma (cover, because you had to go pick up the actual diploma...)

Went to a couple grad parties--and acquired a new boyfriend along the way ;)

Took walks to the park and hung out at home

Met Clara C!

Went shopping and ate at the famous Din Tai Fung with friends (and put makeup on my friend Jeremy...)

Took my brother out for a lunch date

And did lots of other things, including busking at farmer's markets, cooking, and of course cleaning my room in preparation for the move into college dorms...:) It's so nice to be able to stop and smell the roses before I move on to the next stage in life. More to come later...the Nordstrom anniversary presale is next week and I definitely won't be missing it.

spring break!

A couple days ago my buddy Erin and I got together. We snapped some outfit photos before heading back inside (it was quite chilly and windy!) and watching 500 Days of Summer with a bowl of popcorn. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is so fine. The outfit I'm wearing is picked by Erin! Be sure to check out her blog for pics I took of her :)

some outtakes:

a new beginning

it's been a weird couple of weeks. I started out March with high hopes for acceptance letters, thinking that if all my other friends got into their dream schools, I would too. I forgot that my dream school was a reach even for the best scholarly candidates. So I got into three schools, got waitlisted at one I really liked, and then rejected by the last three, supercompetitive schools.

Of course I faced initial disappointment. I thought that I was a strong enough candidate to at least get into my target schools. But in a way, having only three choices is a blessing in disguise. The experience humbled me, and I'm also learning that the acceptance rate does not make a college good or bad. So while it was tough to see others get accepted to Princeton, Brown, Amherst, and Vassar, I know that in the end everything will work out fine, and that I'll receive a great education no matter where I go.

It's interesting when you put things in perspective, too. I talked with my friend at UW recently and he told me about kids who were the only people in their class to get accepted and attend the UW--something that we here at IHS take too much for granted. And really, at the schools I have the opportunity to attend, I'll have a multitude of options to get involved, perhaps without getting as stressed about academics and perfection.

Remember, "Today is only a good day in disguise." And I can't wait to start a new journey.

p.s. outfit posts soon (hopefully). I just bought some new clothes and I can't wait to share!

break, finally!

it's been a hectic past few weeks. i'm excited that i finally get a week to catch up on sleep (and hopefully care for my skin a little better, cause it's been feeling the repercussions of stress :/) my lovely friend erin gave me these tights for v-day, and i was so excited to wear them that i took a bunch of pictures. we even wore them on the same day and were "tightz twinz" but unfortunately we didn't get a picture together. i also braided my hair and it managed to stay wavy for the entire day.

i've been saving for a camera and trying to plan for a possible trip to france (!) so wish me luck!

school days

it's been a long week full of events, too many to put down in a blog post. i've had a lot of ups and downs as far as my feelings and i'm still a bit confused, but hopefully it will all come to pass. i had a lovely conversation with my best friend on the phone, got my 4.0 for first semester, and played an amazing chamber music piece this week. so overall it's been good here.

i know people will probably hate me for my grades, but i can't help but be excited. hopefully my achievements this year in school will really show colleges that i'm ready to learn, and that i know how to balance my life.

tired

i've been up late for the past couple days for no good reason except that my mind can't stop running. i really need to spend some time decompressing and enjoying life, but i feel like i can't do that with finals coming up, midyear reports going to colleges, and everything else that i have to do in life. it's hard to believe that in four months, I'll know where i can go to school next year.

whenever i feel stressed, i always like to look at film photos- here are a few i took quite a while ago.

brisk and new

it's only three days into the new year and i'm already overwhelmed. auditions in two days, lots of homework, not enough time for everything i want to do. so naturally i procrastinated and took some pictures in the frosty snow. it's been on the ground for a while now.
